Cost of college went up for all students at Marion Technical College

In-state tuition and fees rose 9.4 percent for 2018-19 at Marion Technical College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Ohio residents paid $4,902 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $422 more than the $4,480 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 39.2 percent more than residents this year, or $6,822. Their price tag grew 6.6 percent from $6,400 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Ohio residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 79 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 73 students received grants or scholarships totaling $292,790 and 30 students took out student loans totaling more than $111,073.

Including all undergraduates (2,395), 758 students used grants or scholarships totaling $2.8 million, and 358 students took out $1.3 million in federal student loans.
